£9.65 – £17.66 per hour plus accrued holiday pay

The Role

We have a temporary placement opportunity available for a Catering assistant to be responsible for general cleaning of the CPU and disposal of food waste. Food handling related duties in the provision of meals to patients, staff, and other customers.

Location: Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Glossop Road, Sheffield S10 2JF.

Hours: Full time. 5 days37.5 hours per week (over 7-day rotation), 7am – 7pm. This role is an on-going bank placement paying £9.65 – £17.66 per hour.

The Department

The Catering Department utilises the expertise of the caterers and the clinical experience of the dietitians to ensure that patients receive high quality, appropriate and nutritionally adequate food.

The Department is also responsible for the food service to staff and visitors through its outlets in dining rooms, vending machines and delicatessen bars.

The skills required are:

· Ability to work in a chilled and frozen environment.

· GCSE English & Maths Grade 9-4 or equivalent.

· A nationally recognised food hygiene qualification or evidence of working towards one.

· Knowledge of allergens.

· Understanding of food handling processes.

· Previous catering and cleaning experience.

Duties to include:

  • Preparation, packing and labelling of salads and sandwiches for patients, staff, and other customers. Sandwiches to be prepared within a fridge with cool temperatures.
  • Responsible for the packing, sealing, and labelling of meal containers, ensuring dietary needs are catered for as required.
  • Responsible for the correct storage of food stuffs and equipment, accepting deliveries and goods as directed and as per Departmental procedure.
  • Responsible for accurately filling patient meal trolleys and baskets prior to distribution.
  • Responsible for the operation of the pot washing machines to ensure all utensils and equipment are cleaned to specified standard.
  • Carry out general and deep cleaning duties within the Department as directed by the Supervisor and as per cleaning schedules.

· Movement of stackers, trolleys and mobile equipment as required to ensure safe and correct storage.

· Responsible for ensuring that portion sizes, lidding and labelling is in accordance with Departmental recipes and procedures.

· Removal and recycling of waste products as required and place waste food into bio-digesters.
