Vehicle Examiner

Within your role you will:

  • Carry out roadside inspections of all types of vehicles to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, which may require the issue of Prohibition Notices to defective vehicles as to prevent further use and the issue of Fixed Penalty Notices to drivers.

  • Ensure that the MoT Scheme standards are upheld by conducting inspections of Vehicle Test Stations, Nominated Testers and re-inspecting recently tested vehicles.

  • Support partner agencies and Police with road safety initiatives.

  • Prepare reports and statements following investigations as evidence in Court and Public Inquiry hearings

  • Carry out investigations and produce written statements for the Office of The Traffic Commissioner relating to HGV & PSV Operator License requirements

Responsibilities About You

We are looking for someone who has excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing with the ability to adapt how messages and information are delivered to a varied audience.

You are confident when dealing with challenging conversations and remain professional at all times.

You are a motivated, self-starter who thrives on getting work underway quickly and efficiently while adding real value to the team.

You have an eye for detail and an inquisitive mind, which allows you to effectively probe deeper for further details.

You are competent in using IT systems and have a willingness to develop and enhance your skills.

It is essential that you have experience, and are qualified in the repair, maintenance or inspections of at least one of the following:

Further Information

You will be required to travel to various DVSA locations in order to carry out your role, with the potential for overnight stays. This may also include working outside of normal hours (with prior notice) to ensure road safety. You’ll need to be flexible in terms of working hours, being quick to adapt to changes in requirements and hold a Full UK Driving License.

These roles are normally full time, but depending upon business needs and requirements, opportunities may exist for part time, job sharing and flexible working.

In addition to the salary, an extra allowance of £2950 is paid to all Vehicle Examiners

The Leatherhead post is a shift working position and attracts an additional allowance of £8626.

The London, Hayes and Leatherhead posts attract an additional allowance of £4000.

Full Current UK Driving Licence
A vocational related qualification in Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair at level 3
or IMI ATA registration at diagnostic technician level
or IRTEC registration at advanced technician level
or Engtech registration.
